As you can see the subjects are diverse without any duplication. There is still time to enter as the closing of entries has been extended to 31st January 2012.

Attached is a copy of the prospectus and entry form for the Centennial Exhibition or are available on the web-site www.p-s-w-a.com  and a copy of this newsletter will also be available on the websites www.apf.org.au and www.fisa-web.com  as are all the previous newsletters. If you receive this newsletter and are not on the list it is for your information as well as passing it on to whoever you think may be interested. The more entries we received the greater the challenge will become.

This is a repeat of the update of the exhibition.. There will be a welcome evening on Thursday 17th at the Claremont Yacht Club from 6pm, with busses leaving the Robinson Pavilion at 5.45pm for the Yacht Club and picking people up at 9pm approximately to return them to the Claremont Station or back to the City to the “official hotel”.

The official is the Ibis Hotel in Murray Street Perth where we have negotiated a rate of $230 per double/twin room. All of the Commissioners/Jury will be staying there and on the Saturday night the Palmares will be held in the Salt Room at that hotel. I have tried to negotiate other deals but it is impossible to beat some of the online resellers such as the one that I use all the time around the world “Hotels.com”. Normally they will require full payment up front but if you book early you may be able to get a better deal than the Ibis. However, the Ibis may have rooms when the others run out at the rate negotiated.

Hotels within a five minute walk of the Ibis and the Perth railway station are Seasons of Perth Hotel Pier Street, Comfort Inn Wentworth Plaza, Miss Maudes Hotel, Aarons Hotel and Parmelia Hotel. There are other hotels a further distance (about 10 minutes from the Ibis and the railway station namely All Seasons Perth, Murray Hotel Perth, Ambassadors Hotel, Mercure Hotel, Travelodge, Novatel Langley and Comfort Inn. These are all listed on the Hotels.com website at prices less than the Ibis, but dates are not given for the rates shown. You must remember that Perth is the gateway to the mining area of WA and at times hotels can be difficult to obtain at a reasonable price. There are also hotels in Fremantle but be sure to book those near the railway station if you wish to stay there around the “Capuccino strip”. There are also cheaper Motels on the way into the city from the airport but as that road is being upgraded and widened during the next year, though you might find something cheaper it may not be a bargain. On the other hand you could stay there and hire a car for the same amount as staying in the city or Fremantle.

Now for what is going on at the exhibition. The exhibition will be officially opened on Thursday 17th May at 10am. On Thursday it will remain open until 5.30pm, and the  drinks and nibblies will be available for those that are invited or have purchased a ticket, with a bus leaving from outside the Robinson Pavilion. At around 3pm there will be a meeting of the Royal Philatelic Society of Victoria for members, guests and potential members

Friday the exhibition will open at 10am with there being two things on that day though not all at the exhibition. There will be a trip to the Aviation Heritage Museum Bullcreek for GAFFA exhibitors and others at a cost yet to be determined etc. There will very likely an onsite Auction commencing at 5.30pm (the closing time of the exhibition). The auction house to run the auction is yet to be determined. Otherwise it is free evening if you do not wish to go to GAFFA or the Auction.

Ken Sanford has advised that he has found accommodation and will be arriving in Perth/Fremantle as follows:

I am going to arrive on 12 May.  I plan to rent a car for three days, probably the 13th, 14th & 15th, and go to The Pinnacles one day, Wave Rock another day, and possibly the wine district south of Perth another day.  Anyone attending the Gaffa Challenge is welcome to join me and share the car expense.  If anyone is interested, they should email me.”
